Scorecard data for  State and Local Tax Burdens

State Business Taxes Per Capita, 2004

Business taxes per capita is a comparative measure of taxes paid by business in a state. These primarily consist of corporation and franchise taxes.

Pennsylvania’s unfavorable ranking is due to a high rate of Corporate Net Income Tax and the addition of the Capital Stock and Franchise Tax. Most states do not levy both taxes. This comparison does not include taxes paid by non-incorporated business that usually pay personal income taxes at a much lower rate.
