Scorecard data for  State and Local Tax Burdens

Local Revenue for Basic Education as a Percent of Total, 2001-2002

In almost every state, local school districts and state government share the support of basic education (K-12). The relative share of each has implications for funding equity and total spending, particularly at the school district level.

School districts in Pennsylvania support a larger share of the cost of basic education than the national average. Higher reliance on local sources can create greater disparities in spending due to differences in local district revenue raising abilities.
