Scorecard data for  State and Local Tax Burdens

Pennsylvania State Spending on Basic Education as Percent of General Fund, FY 1996-97 to 2005-06.

Trends in basic education spending demonstrate the state’s financial commitment to education compared to all other demands for funding.

Pennsylvania’s fluctuating rate of education spending shows the complexity of education finance issues. Education funding allocations have not increased as fast as funding for other functions. This usually means school districts must make up the differences through local resources. Whiel the share of the General Fund has remained relatively constant, total spending in dollars on education has increased as the total General Fund Budget ahs increased.

Note: The figure for 2005-06 is the amount appropriated. All other years are based on actual amounts spent.
